Steve Jon Cobby is a British electronica musician, composer, producer, and occasional DJ from Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire, England. Cobby co-founded Fila Brazillia, one of my favorite British duos, with David Mc Sherry in 1990. Cobby and McSherry had released more than 70 remixes for artists including Black Uhuru, Busta Rhymes, DJ Food, Lamb, Radiohead, Moloko and the Orb and performed in a variety of different countries. Their music was used in a set of films, TV shows and advertisements such as Nokia, Sex and the City, Blue Peter, Riding Giants, and Once in a Lifetime (documentary.)
In 2006, after releasing their “Retrospective” album, Cobby quietly ended his longtime prolific creative partnership with McSherry. Subsequently, Cobby established Steel Tiger Records with Sim Lister.
He has released 2 Lp’s in 2013: “The Solid Doctor How about some ether” and “Beats Means Highs”. Cobby is now back with his solo lp “Saudade”. Coincidentally, Thievery Cooperation’s new album “Saudade” came out in April via their own ESL Music label.
Steve Cobby’s “ Saudade ” draws upon funky, down tempo and jazzy elements with electronic beats that takes you on a splendid journey for an hour. After an hour, you get lost in a dreamy planet and never want to come back!
