Guards – Ready to Go
By Serenat Kivilcim
Guards [link], a three piece New York based American indie-pop group, is made up of three of the most spectacular creative minds of today’s music world. Loren Humphrey on drums and Kaylie Church on keyboards provide a marvelous backdrop for singer/guitarist Richie Follin, as the group’s modern feel and charming charisma represent this new and inspiring musical movement.
Their debut album, “In Guards We Trust”, was released through Black Bell Records in February 2013, and the band never looked back! The Single “Ready to Go” is a cheerful and catchy track that draws on vocal harmony and creative riffs to achieve a one of a kind piece. The video for the song seems to represent the passion, lust, and innocence of a summer time youth romance, as the song provides the perfect setting to appeal to such emotions.
The soulful and driving rhythmic style of this band seem to emulate that of certain late 90’s groups, yet still managing to maintain their own unique identity. I think that this band represents a new wave of musical genre quite well, but they still remind me of groups such as “Third Eye Blind”, “Velvet Underground”, and “U2”. I would be hard pressed to find someone who truly did not enjoy their music, but you all should check them out and see for yourselves.
