We Were Promised Jetpacks

We Were Promised Jetpacks (link) are Scottish indie band that formed in Edinburgh in 2003. Their debut album, “These Four Walls”, was released in 2009 and with that they toured in America with Bad Veins and opened for Jimmy Eat World. Their follow up album, “In the Pit of the Stomach” was released in 2011 and to give their fans a glimpse of how this album would sound like the track “Act on Impulse” was also released.
“Unraveling”, just like their other albums is full of a lot of emotion, powerful drums, riveting riffs on guitars and delicate keyboards. Unraveling was recorded in Chem19 Studios with Paul Savage who is known for his work with Mogwai and Teenage Fanclub. “I Keep It Composed” is a song that stands out in the album due to thundering drums that keep a steady tempo and guitar riffs that echo through the sound of the drums. Starting at 2:23 the song takes on a life of its own that gives a sense of desperation but keeps the listener hooked on it, wanting to know how it ends. “Bright Minds” is mostly a flow of bass sounds and cymbals and keyboard sounds that drift in and out.
“Unraveling” was released October 14 and is an album worth checking out if you enjoy bands that come at you with such a force that it blows your mind (and ears) away.
